Presentation isn’t everything, but it does make quite an impression.  We live in a world driven by perception rather than reality.  Facades tend to build brands instead of true substance.

While I don’t endorse focusing more on the outside than on the inside, I do recognize that improving the outside does add value.  The outside is what attracts and peeks the interest of others.  It’s what creates the opportunity to share what’s on the inside.  Without quality presentation, the world may never know who you really are.

Presentation includes the visual and visible aspects of your brand, from logo and graphics to physical appearance.  It doesn’t cost a bundle to have quality presentation, but it does require intentionality and consistency.  If you’ve read any of our other blogs, you know “intentionality” and “consistency” are two of our favorite words.  They are the secret sauce when it comes to making your brand rise above the rest.

Here are some tips regarding both visual and physical presentation.

Visual Presentation

  1. Take time to determine a specific theme for your brand. Is it Classic? Modern?  Artistic?  Traditional?  Your theme should determine the look and feel of all your other visual content.
  2. Use graphics and imagery that are clean, crisp and simple. Make sure they communicate a clear message that is easy to read and/or understand.  Avoid clutter and complexity.  Less is more!
  3. Here goes that word again…Be Consistent! Once you’ve determined the colors and fonts affiliated with your logo, use them regularly to communicate via print, video, email, web and social media.  It’s important that these colors and fonts become subconsciously associated with your brand.

Physical Presentation

  1. Take time to determine the style and look that reflects your brand.  Is it Formal?  Informal?  Casual?  Colorful?  Monochromatic?  Make it a point to ensure your physical appearance consistently supports this style and look.
  2. Be Confident! You may not have all the answers or even know what you are doing at first, but if you don’t show it they won’t know it.  Just take a deep breath and channel your anxiety into energy and excitement.
  3. Smile often, or better yet laugh! Be personable and don’t take yourself so seriously.  People tend to easily connect with someone they can relate to and we all know by now that no one is perfect.  So be honest.  Be authentic.  And have fun!
